NO DEPRESSION AND LEE ZIMMERMAN LIKE BROKEN KNIFE! “While this appears to be his first album, judging by the high level of his song craft, he clearly possesses a knack for affecting songs with a firm sense of purpose. “It’s alright,” he assures on the song of the same name, further proof of the power of affirmation as wielded by someone with the proper combination of sentiment and savvy. One terrific album, Broken Knife proves that point emphatically.” Read the whole review here: http://nodepression.com/album-review/john-cable-offers-life-lessons-worth-remembering John McEuen on Broken Knife: “If John Cable had stayed in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band we would have made some great recordings of his wonderful songs…His music touches a nerve in people, his voice is confident, yet ‘asking you to listen’ to the message.. not demanding, but bringing you into the unfolding story. My east coast dates with John McEuen were filled with surprises and great music. I was so honored to play a duet with the great David Amram in New York. We performed Pastures of Plenty, the iconic song written by David’s old friend, Woody Guthrie. From there, John and I traveled to Vienna,VA where we hooked up with original NGDB bassist, Les Thompson. Our opening act turned out to be Molly O’Brien and Rich Moore. What a nice surprise! It had been several years since our paths last crossed. We ended up at a SRO show in Sarasota,Fl, John’s current hometown. My big brother, who hasn’t seen a show of mine in 30 years was on hand and, luckily, he saw a good one. I’m still on track for a January 2015 release of the new CD, It’s Alright and I hope to be out to promote it after the first of the year. Stay...read more
