I began playing for beer and attention in Lubbock, Texas in 1969. I met and later joined
the Texas band, Colours. We played all over the country for 3 1/2 years.
The beer was replaced with actual money at some point. None of us is really sure when.
I joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the late 70s. My time
with the Dirt Band was highlighted by the first tour by an American band in the Soviet Union in 1976.
Television: Tonight Show, Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits, Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
Venues: Carnegie Hall, Wolftrap, Red Rocks, countless festivals and concerts with ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Steve Martin, Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, Little Feat, etc. etc.
I left the Dirt Band to join my dear friends from Michael Martin Murphey's band.
I teamed up with one of the most talented songwriters I know, Richard Dean. I
learned a lot, but to this day, I am still trying and failing to "out-write" him.
I have had the great pleasure to play with wonderful musicians over the years. Chuck Pyle,
Sam Broussard, Kenny Vaughan, John Macy, Stephen Croes, John McEuen, Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Ibbotson and
a bunch more. I've got a bunch of new songs. Now all I need is the time, energy and money to do them justice. We'll see.
